Base44 not working? How to fix errors and publish safely
Last reviewed 3 November 2026
Your Base44 app won’t load, publishing fails, or an error keeps coming back. Here’s how to recover without making it worse, what to check on security, and what to know before you send it to Apple.
Check Base44’s status page, then use version history to go back to a working version. Read the app’s logs and give the AI chat the exact error. Remember that your live app only changes when you publish. Before launch, review data permissions and run the security scan.
Recover in this order
- Check the Base44 status page. Base44 suggests doing this first. If there’s an incident, it may clear up on its own.
- Check what your customers actually see. Your live app only changes when you publish, so a broken draft in the editor may not have reached them.
- Use version history. Every change is saved as a version. You can preview an earlier one, restore it to the editor, or publish it directly while you keep working on your draft. That’s a useful way to get customers back to a working app quickly.
- Read the logs. The Logs page shows user activity and function calls. Copy the exact error instead of describing it.
- Export your data before risky changes, from your app’s data tables.
Get out of the fix loop
- Ask for an explanation before a change: “What’s causing this? Don’t change anything yet.”
- Change one thing at a time, and test it.
- Include the steps: what you clicked, what you expected, and the error.
- Try a branch for bigger changes, so your main app stays safe.
- Stop after two failed attempts. Restore, then try a different, narrower instruction.
What common problems usually mean
| What you see | Usually points to | Try first |
|---|---|---|
| Not loading, or preview blank | A platform incident, your browser, or the latest change | Check the status page, try a clean browser window, then restore a version |
| Rate limit exceeded | Too many requests in a short time, either to Base44 or to a connected service | Wait, then check whether something in your app is repeating requests |
| Error 404 | A page or address that no longer exists after a change | Check the page’s address and your navigation links |
| Error 500 or 502 | A failing function, or a temporary platform problem | Check the status page, then read your logs |
| Failed to publish | A build problem in the latest version, or a temporary issue | Try publishing an earlier working version from version history |
| Someone can’t see data, or sees too much | Data access rules | Review data permissions for that table |
These are common patterns, not a diagnosis. Base44’s documentation has the current steps.
Security: what’s your job
Base44 handles a lot at platform level, but its own security overview says you’re responsible for your app’s security settings. Before you publish:
- Set who can open the app: private, workspace or public.
- Check the data rules, so that each person only sees their own orders or messages.
- Run the security scan, and read each fix before applying it.
- Test with two accounts, using our security checklist.
Before you submit to the App Store
Base44 has an app store submission flow. It explains that your mobile app runs your published web app inside a web view, a lightweight native wrapper. Three things follow from that:
- Apple’s Guideline 4.2 matters. Apple asks for more than a repackaged website, so your app needs to feel and work like an app. See our 4.2 guide.
- You need your own accounts. Base44 lists an Apple Developer Program account and a Google Play Console account among the requirements, along with a privacy policy and terms of use. Check your plan too: the scan is free, but downloading the submission files needs a paid plan. Use your company’s name on the accounts. See how publishing works.
- Live changes still reach users. Base44 says most content and design changes appear without a new store version, so test before you publish, as your customers will see it straight away.
When to get help
Bring in a developer if your data, sign-in or payments keep breaking, if Apple keeps rejecting the app, or if you’ve outgrown what the platform can do. See how we make AI-built apps ready for real customers.
Questions founders ask
Can Base44 publish to the App Store?
Base44 has a flow that prepares your app and produces the submission files, but you submit through your own Apple and Google accounts, and Apple’s review still decides.
Can I export my Base44 code?
Base44 has code tools and GitHub features, and what’s available depends on your plan. On the Free plan you can view code but not edit it. Check the current docs before you rely on moving the app elsewhere, since it relies on Base44’s platform.
Is my Base44 app secure by default?
Base44 covers platform-level protection, but it says your app’s settings are your responsibility. Review data permissions and run the scan before you publish.
